Mass brawl erupts at lavish wedding in India
A massive brawl erupted between the bride and groom's families at a lavish Indian wedding - over a shortage of food.
Footage shows angry guests throwing chairs and tables at each other outside the event hall in Uttar Pradesh on July 13. Two men were seen using a metal rod and attacking each other with it like having a sword fight.
The chaos allegedly started when food at the buffet table ran out before some of the hungry guests could eat.
Some also complained that the chicken biryani ran out of meat and was only served with rice, adding to tension on the couple's special day.
Due to this, the groom's family allegedly demanded money from the bride's family to spend on food. However, the bride's brother allegedly turned furious when they asked for more, causing the brawl.
The wedding was eventually called off, and the bride was taken home before the vows could be said.
Those involved said the wedding was being held down the road from a local police station, which alerted police officers who turned up to calm the situation.
In traditional Indian weddings, the bride's family typically covers most expenses, including the main ceremony, reception, and bride's attire.
However, modern practices are shifting towards more equal cost-sharing between families, with some couples opting to pay for their weddings.
