Gaza: Survivors of Israeli attack on Khan Younis recall devastating moments
Gaza - July 13, 2024
[WARNING: Video contains sensitive content / blood]
Storyline:
Survivors of Israeli attacks on Khan Younis of Gaza Strip on Saturday recalled the devastating moments after the Israeli airstrikes hit the tents for displaced people in the city earlier that day.
At least 90 Palestinians, half of them children and women, were killed, and about 300 others were wounded in the raid that took place in the city's Mawasi area, with some sustaining critical injuries, according to the Gaza-based health authorities.
The Israeli Defense Forces on Saturday claimed that the attacks targeted Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, whereas the airstrikes resulted in significant civilian casualties in the Mawasi area.
Hamas said on Sunday that its military chief Mohammed Deif is in good health.
The densely populated Mawasi area, which was previously designated as a humanitarian safe zone by Israeli forces, is now reduced to rubble.
According to the civil defense personnel, the Israeli army first launched a fierce bombing against the target area with fighter jets, then sent drones to attack anyone who tried to approach the scene, and then attacked the Gaza Strip civil defense department that tried to rescue, resulting in the death of three members.
According to statistics, 75 Gaza Strip civil defense personnel have been killed since the outbreak of this round of conflict last year.
Shotlist:
Khan Younis, Gaza Strip - July 13, 2024:
1. Aerial shot of city view;
2. Various of buildings destroyed by Israeli attacks, displaced Palestinians;
3. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Khalid Safi (transliteration), displaced Palestinian:
"When I arrived at this neighborhood, it was almost like a ghost town -- bodies and injured people everywhere. One person was crying and shouting 'Dad' while holding his father. I started looking for my friends, but couldn't find anyone. I tried calling my friend Ibrahim when suddenly a missile exploded in the area. I ran and crawled, unsure where to go. Eventually, I found shelter in a house to avoid explosions. When I came out and walked onto the street again, all I saw were bodies and blood."
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yusuf Abu Shab (transliteration), displaced Palestinian (ending with shot 5):
"The explosion happened right beside our tent. Miraculously, we survived. Israeli warplanes suddenly bombed the area, launching not just one but three airstrikes -- first one strike, then a second and a third."
5. Various of ruins, stuff scattered on ground;
6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Magdi Al Ghur (transliteration), displaced Palestinian (staring with shot 5):
"We are now at the site of the airstrikes, in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis. The Israeli military calls this a 'safe zone', but this is the 'safety' we have received."
7. Various of displaced Palestinians collecting stuff from ruins;
8. Various of bags of flour retrieved from ruins;
9. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Rad Ashour (transliteration), director, Khan Yunis Civil Defence (ending with shot 10):
"The airstrike site is located on Al-Nas Street, which is full of displaced persons' tents and residential buildings. When the first missile hit this site, our civil defense personnel rushed here, including ambulances, rescue vehicles and fire trucks. Our people entered the scene to rescue. Unfortunately, they became the object of the Israeli drone strike."
10. Various of debris, blood stains.
