A Korean footballer confronted alleged pickpockets whom he claimed blocked his path and took his wallet in the Philippines.

Athlete Yiyoung Park, 30, who plays for the local team Kaya Futbol Club and is a model, said he was walking on the street of the upscale district of Taguig in Manila when six women surrounded him.

At first, he thought they were fans and he basked in what he thought was their adulation.

But he said that three of them blocked his path while the others mobbed him so he checked his bag and found his wallet had gone.

At that moment, he suspected the group and began recording a video using his phone.

Footage shows the women seemingly fleeing as Yiyoung followed them. He said to one of the women: ‘Show me your face.'

The woman answered: ‘No, I will give you to the embassy,' while trying to cover her face with her hand.

He asked them why they stole his wallet, and they ran to the bus stop.

Yiyoung said: 'They were moving further away but still visible to me. They suddenly dispersed in three groups in different directions. So, I could only chase one group. I caught up with a group and asked for my wallet back.'

The footballer added he asked a nearby establishment for help 'but the guard could not provide any help.'

He said: 'I kept chasing. When we reached a place with few people, one of the accomplices told another, 'just give his wallet back and let's leave,' and I got my wallet back.

'After checking all the IDs and cards in my wallet, I started taking videos to leave evidence. Unfortunately, I was not able to check my cash inside of my wallet at that time, so some cash was still missing.

'Anyway long story short, I'm safe and I got my wallet back but still missing some cash. I hope that you all remain alert and careful that something like this never happens again.'

Following the incident, admins of the Bonifacio Global City, the vicinity where the alleged pickpocketing happened, released a statement.

It said: 'The complainant, a Korean national, received immediate assistance from a BGC security officer during the incident and was offered additional support to file a police report at the Police Sub-Station inside BGC, which the complainant declined.

'BGC remains vigilant in observing measures and actively cooperating with the local authorities to ensure that safety remains an utmost priority within its spaces.'
