STORYLINE:

Sri Lankan international affairs expert Yasiru Ranaraja has said that people-centered development has shown a lot of success in China. 

The expert suggested that other countries could draw lessons from China's experience.

"What I see China is doing through its initiatives or through its policy framework is to identify the needs of the people.
So that's why the government, I think, as a principle, they put people at the front of everything. 
So I think it is a good principle where you believe that your country is governed by the people itself. And the representatives of various fields come to the government meetings and (hold) your party memberships.
It gives a very diverse patchwork, a policy framework or a negotiating table, where you get to understand the different needs of different people.
I think people-centered development has shown a lot of success in China. And it's something that the whole world can further study and implement in their own structures as well."

Ranaraja also said that poverty reduction is one of the great achievements of China. 

He emphasized that investments in public goods will continue to benefit China and its people in the years ahead.

"It's very difficult to maintain or manage that form of vast population.
So definitely, I would say organization in the sense of lifting the people out of poverty was one of the main achievements of China's centenary goal that they achieved a few years ago.
And basically, reduction of poverty. And apart from that, the investing of public spaces or public utilities as roads, schools, hospitals, and universities. These are the main factors that would help China not in these 10 years or next 20 years, but I think in the coming decades."
