This is the astonishing moment when adorable baby panda Katyusha got bored and decided to distract her mum, Ding Ding, by playing with a log at Moscow Zoo in Russia.

The cunning little panda attracted her mother's attention and received gentle nibbles and hugs on June 30.

Moscow Zoo's General Director, Svetlana Akulova, said in a statement: 'Mama, you don't need to play with a log, it's more interesting to play with me!'

According to the Chinese National Giant Panda Conservation and Research Centre, Katyusha made history as the first baby giant panda to be born in Russia.

She was born in August 2023. Her parent's pandas arrived in Moscow in 2019 as part of China and Russia's celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

In preparation for the panda's arrival in 2019, Moscow Zoo renovated its pens and enclosure.

Its employees had undergone several months of training at a Chinese panda breeding centre to ensure proper care of the animals.

China is famous for its 'Panda Diplomacy', where giant pandas are sent from China to other countries as a tool of diplomacy.
