The United Nations Security Council held a high-level meeting on Wednesday on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.

Delegates warned Israel's continuous attacks in the Gaza Strip, settlement expansion in the West Bank, and regional spillover threatening prospect for two-state solution.

Riyad H. Mansour, permanent observer for the State of Palestine, said that the Israeli government's current actions is helpless to peace in the Middle East.

At the meeting, Courtenay Rattray, the Secretary-General's Chef de Cabinet, briefed the Security Council. He said, "Nowhere in Gaza is safe," as the humanitarian crisis worsens. He said the ability of humanitarian aid to enter and be delivered throughout the Gaza Strip is critical to the survival and well-being of the local population.

In addition to Gaza, Rattray expressed concern about Israel's illegal settlement expansion and violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, which blurs the worrying prospect of the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.
