Overseas travellers entered China following an expansion of the visa-free policy.

An American traveller who arrived in Kunming, Yunnan Province on Tuesday was among the first to benefit from the expanded 144-hour visa-free transit policy.

Benjamin Michael, an American traveller, said: "I enjoy travelling. I have friends in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and I thought it would be more interesting to fly to Kunming instead. From there, I can take the train to Laos and continue on to Thailand. I'm looking forward to experiencing Kunming and China, which is quite exotic for Americans. I'm eager to meet people, try the food, and explore the culture."

China's National Immigration Administration announced on Monday that the country's 144-hour visa-free transit policy has been extended to three additional entry ports, including Lijiang Sanyi International Airport and the Mohan railway port in Yunnan Province.
