A female tourist was trapped in a lift when an electric transformer exploded at a luxury condominium in Thailand.

The unnamed young woman was alone inside the lift cabin when the power briefly went out at the eight-storey condo in Pattaya on July 16 evening.

Rescue teams and condo staff brought equipment to pry open the doors on the ground floor.

They also placed fans for ventilation, and prepared water for the woman, who was conscious and able to speak with them throughout the rescue.

Staff said that sparks from the transformer caused a fire that burned through the electric wires, trigerring a power outage in the building.

They then contacted the local electricity office and the fire department for assistance, with officials finding the trapped tourist during the inspection.

After 20 minutes of being stuck, the tourist was rescued and assisted out of the lift.

She wore a large, relieved smile on her face as she thanked the personnel for saving her.
