Elephants at Vadakkumnatha Temple were treated to a royal feast on Tuesday. Fifteen female elephants were among the 70 elephants that participated in the 42nd Aanayoottu at the Vadakkunnathan Temple. The Ashtadravyam (a mixture of eight ingredients) for the elephants was prepared by 60 people using 12,008 coconuts, 2,000 kg of jaggery, 2,000 kg of flattened rice, 500 kg of puffed rice, 60 kg of sesame, 50 kg of honey, Ganapathi Naranga, sugarcane, and other items.

The elephants were fed a mixture containing 500 kg of rice, jaggery, turmeric powder, pineapple, cucumber, watermelon, various fruits, and a special digestive medicine. An Ayurveda medicinal mix was given to the elephant at the end of the feast for proper digestion.

The feeding was supervised by a team of 15 veterinary doctors and forest department officials. Hundreds of people from all over the district and outside, including several foreigners witnessed the event.
