On July 14, 2024, during a show of traditional Chinese shadow puppetry held in Guangdong Province, eastern China, a unique dance on the curtain captured the audience's attention.

Yet to the audience's surprise, in this shadow play, a puppet figure in a tutu performed a joyful modern dance on the white curtain as the performer behind the curtain maneuvered.

According to the filmer, this was not actually part of the official performance, but rather a program in the display for visitors to experience, and it was a grandfather who operated behind the curtain to produce this wonderful and special dance.

As an ancient art and a folk tradition in China, the shadow puppetry, also known as Shadow play, is a form of story-telling performance in which flat articulated cut-out figures (shadow puppets) are placed between a light source and a translucent screen or scrim.

By moving puppets or light sources for various effects, shadow puppetry is often used to tell some well-known Chinese folk tales.
