Terrified shoppers fled as a ceiling suddenly collapsed at a mall in southern China.

CCTV footage from Chongqing on July 18 shows the ceiling unexpectedly falling over a large area, causing panic among shoppers and visitors at the mall.

The collapse affected approximately 160 square metres, leaving the area in disarray with debris scattered everywhere.

Following the accident, many residents gathered at the scene, with some helping to clear the debris and others comforting the injured.

The incident resulted in six people being injured, including a child. Fortunately, all the injured were promptly taken to hospital and are not in life-threatening condition.

The Hechuan District government has taken the incident seriously, stating that it will quickly investigate the cause of the accident and hold those responsible accountable according to the law.

该事故发生在商场LG层二期附属商业区域，监控画面显示，当时人来人往，吊顶突然大面积掉落，给正在商场内购物和游玩的市民带来了不小的惊吓。据统计，涉事面积约为160平方米，现场瞬间变得一片狼藉，各类建材散落一地。
事故发生后，现场聚集了大量居民，部分热心居民自发帮忙清理障碍，同时也有许多居民在安抚伤者。

该事故造成6人受伤，其中包括儿童。幸运的是，所有伤者均已被及时送往医院接受治疗，均无生命危险。

合川区人民政府对此事给予了高度重视，表示将尽快查明事故原因，并依法依规处理相关责任人。
