STORYLINE:

The GAIKINDO Indonesia Int'l Auto Show 2024 (GIIAS) kicked off on Thursday in Tangerang, Banten province.

Slated to be held until July 28, the auto show is set to showcase a diverse range of automotive innovations and designs.

With the surging popularity of Chinese new energy vehicles (NEVs), exhibit booths of Chinese auto brands have been under the spotlight during the auto show, drawing great interest from visitors, local auto dealers and officials.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Indonesian): DJAUHARI ORATMANGUN, Indonesian ambassador to China
"I think there are several priorities in the context of the economic cooperation between Indonesia and China, one of which is the electric vehicles. I look forward to seeing the participation of various Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers in the GIIAS this year. It is very significant. This is a reflection of the cooperation that has been developed so far and hopefully, this will further develop in the coming years."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LIU YAN, Marketing Operation Director of Wuling Indonesia
"From the perspective of the industry scale, China has a complete industrial chain of NEVs and the largest market for NEVs. As for Indonesia, it has a target for carbon emissions. I think Chinese NEV companies are very competitive and have very good opportunities."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): PATRICK, Visitor
"I believe in Chinese brands because what they offer to us as a user or as a customer is material. It's way beyond the other car makers probably. Like China, they give us more. They are upgrading our level to the next level for the interiors and everything."
