Authorities from the Municipal Police's Environmental Unit in Madrid have intervened at a santeria in the Tetuan district, rescuing five roosters slated for ritual sacrifice and launching an investigation into animal cruelty allegations against the establishment's manager.

The operation was initiated following a citizen alert, prompting officers to respond to the santeria located on Almansa Street. Inside, they discovered five roosters confined in a cardboard box, evidently prepared for ritualistic purposes. Alongside the birds, officers uncovered knives, swords, and other sharp implements, some bearing traces of blood and feathers from previous rituals.

Local police have since initiated legal proceedings against the individual responsible for animal cruelty. Additionally, they have documented violations related to the sale of products deemed unfit for consumers, resulting in the confiscation of 325 items.

The rescued birds have been transferred to the Animal Protection Center (CPA) for safekeeping, while the confiscated tools will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
