Mount Merapi in Indonesia spews intense hot clouds as far as 1,200 meters and incandescent lava.


The volcanic activity of Mount Merapi in Indonesia continues to increase, and has been quite high in the last few days.

On Saturday 20 July 2024 evening, Mount Merapi again emitted hot clouds of avalanche with a maximum distance of 1,200 meters.

This volcano, which is located on the border of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), during previous observations at 12.00 - 18.00 West Indonesia Time (WIB) emitted three lava avalanches in a sliding direction towards the southwest of Kali Bebeng.

"There was a Hot Cloud Fall on Mount Merapi on July 20 2024 at 19.46 WIB with a maximum amplitude of 35 mm, duration of 119 seconds, a distance of 1,200 meters in the direction of Kali Bebeng, wind direction to the Southwest, and spewing incandescent lava," said Alzwar Nurmanaji, Mount Merapi Observation Post Officer Alzwar Nurmanaji this Saturday evening, July 20 2024.

Residents are advised to remain alert and not enter areas that are declared dangerous.

Mount Merapi has a height of 2,968 meters above sea level (masl). and is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia.
