This is the astonishing moment an uncontacted Amazon tribe came dangerously close to loggers in the Peruvian Amazon.

Footage shows the tribespeople of the Mascho Piro - an indigenous tribe of nomadic hunter-gatherers inhabiting the Amazon rainforest - roaming in search of food along the banks of the Las Piedras River in Madre de Dios, Peru.

Human rights organization Survival International raised concerns that logging companies might come into conflict with the reclusive tribe by encroaching onto protected land.

Caroline Pearce, Director of Survival International, said: 'These images underscore a humanitarian crisis in the making.

'Immediate action is needed to halt logging activities and safeguard the Mashco Piro's land. The Forest Stewardship Council's continued certification of Canales Tahuamanu would undermine the credibility of forest sustainability efforts.'

Alfredo Vargas Pio, president of local Indigenous organization FENAMAD, slammed the government's alleged failure to protect Mashco Piro territory, saying: 'The presence of loggers threatens our existence and brings risks of disease and violence. Legal recognition and protection of our territorial rights are urgent.'

Two loggers were reported to have been shot by the tribe with arrows in 2022. One reportedly died in the attack.
