Quick-thinking pedestrians leap away from collapsing building in India
This is the dramatic moment a residential building collapsed, killing one and injuring four in India.
Footage shows pedestrians leaping away as a chunk of the ageing Rubinnisa Manzil building fell to the ground in Mumbai on July 20.
CCTV from a cafe on the ground floor captured the moment the structure collapsed and pedestrians below scrambled for cover.
Video from after the collapse shows large parts of the upper floors missing.
A fire brigade official said: 'Five persons were injured after a part of a balcony collapsed. They were rushed to a hospital, where an 80-year-old woman was declared dead, while four others are undergoing treatment.'
The building of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority had previously been flagged as 'dangerous' by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
The collapse occurred amid heavy rain in the area.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai has forecast moderate to heavy precipitation for the city, emphasising the need for caution in the face of unpredictable weather conditions.
