United States: Seven Spokane Officers and K9 Hurt in Dramatic Pursuit Crash
Spokane, United States - July 19, 2024
A high-speed pursuit involving suspects from a recent drive-by shooting ended in a serious crash earlier today, injuring seven officers and a K9 unit. All injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals and are expected to recover, along with the suspects who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident unfolded just before 1:00 pm today, July 19, 2024, when SWAT and K9 officers, following up on a warrant, spotted a suspect vehicle linked to a drive-by shooting. Attempting to halt the suspects, the K9 officer initiated a pursuit, prompting other officers to join in due to the severity of the initial offense. An armored vehicle was dispatched to assist as the suspects fled into a residential area.
The pursuit intensified as the suspects headed eastbound on Carlisle, intersecting with an armored vehicle traveling southbound on Oak. The resulting collision involved the K9 unit's vehicle, which was also pursuing the suspects, further complicating the scene.
Despite the chaos, three suspects were apprehended without further incident and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The injured K9 was promptly taken to a veterinarian, while officers were transported to hospital following the securing of the scene. Fortunately, a civilian vehicle narrowly avoided the collision by pulling over upon seeing the approaching emergency vehicles.
Currently, the intersection of Oak and Carlisle remains closed as authorities conduct an investigation.
