A car waiting at a red light suddenly lost control and crashed into pedestrians at a crosswalk, injuring eight people in southern China.

The CCTV footage was filmed in Changsha City in Hunan Province on 21 July.

According to the Changsha Traffic Police, the accident occurred at the intersection of Jiefang Road and Huangxing Road. The car was travelling west when it went out of control while waiting for the green light. The car then ploughed through the crosswalk, hitting pedestrians and a parked vehicle.

The incident resulted in eight people being injured, with two in serious condition, one in critical condition, and five with minor injuries.

Witnesses at the scene quickly sprang into action, helping to lift the vehicle and rescue the trapped pedestrians. Police and ambulances arrived promptly, detaining the driver, Liu Mouhui, and transporting the injured to hospital for emergency treatment. All victims are currently receiving medical care.

Initial investigations revealed that Liu Mouhui, a 47-year-old driver for a local car rental service, had no prior criminal record. Authorities have ruled out alcohol and drug use.

Dashcam footage shows Liu turning around to clear items from the back seat while waiting at the light, which led to the vehicle’s loss of control. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
