Woman gives birth to baby with four legs, four arms and two faces in India
A woman stunned doctors when she gave birth to a baby with two faces, and two sets of legs and arms in India.
Footage shows mother Rama Devi, 40, from Koreanpurwa, Kiratapur, lying next to the child as curious villagers flocked to her room to see the newborn at a hospital in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, on July 22.
The baby had two faces on a single head, and extra limbs protruding from its body.
Medics said Rama may have had conjoined twins, but one baby's body was underdeveloped. Instead, the limbs fused with the body of the stronger twin.
Rama's husband, Ramphal, said: 'My wife has given birth to an extraordinary child. We are blessed. This is a sign of incredible good luck and fortune.'
However, superstitious nurses were frightened when they saw the malformed baby and allegedly tried to remove it from the hospital, resulting in an argument.
Local media reported that the infant died five hours after its birth.
In a similar incident, a baby was born with four arms and legs, also in Uttar Pradesh last November.
The baby was rushed to the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College hospital in Meerut as he was having trouble breathing.
Dr Navratan Gupta, head of the hospital's paediatric department, said conjoined twins had fused in the mum's womb.
The medic said: 'One baby has developed completely, while only the hands and legs of the other baby have developed. It seems that the infant has extra limbs, but in fact, these are of the other baby.'
