A massive explosion marked the successful demolition of a bridge in eastern China.

The spectacular video was filmed in Ji'an City in Jiangxi Province on July 19.

This demolition signifies the end of an era for the Ganjiang Bridge, which has been a significant part of the city's development.

Spanning 1,057 metres in length and 15.5 metres in width, the Ganjiang Bridge, a box-type arch bridge, was a vital transportation hub since its completion. However, with increasing traffic, particularly heavy trucks, the bridge was long overstressed, leading to severe damage on the west side and key components of the main arch.

Professional assessments highlighted significant safety risks, emphasising the urgent need for its removal and replacement to enhance traffic capacity and navigational standards.

To ensure the demolition went smoothly, Jishui County's government prepared a detailed and precise blasting plan, addressing key aspects such as personnel evacuation, safety measures, traffic control, and emergency responses.

Over 1,000 personnel, including police, urban management teams, emergency responders, and local officials, were deployed to maintain comprehensive security and patrol the area. Following the detonation command, the bridge collapsed in a controlled sequence, and the demolition proceeded safely and orderly.

Post-demolition, Jishui County promptly began cleanup operations to restore navigation and launched the construction of a new Ganjiang Bridge.

The new bridge, designed to be 33.5 metres wide with six lanes, will meet Grade II navigational standards and combine highway and urban bridge specifications.

This new structure is expected to significantly improve traffic conditions and support the development of the Gan-Yue Grand Canal, playing a crucial role in the local economic and social growth.

Construction of the new bridge is slated for completion in March 2027, and it will serve as a critical link to the Gan-Yue Expressway, Jinzhang Avenue, and Jishui High-Speed Rail West Station, offering enhanced safety and convenience for local residents and travellers.
