An elderly man narrowly escaped a falling water tank during Typhoon Prapiroon in southern China.

The terrifying CCTV footage was filmed in Wanning City in Hainan Province on July 22.

A water tank from the first floor was blown off by the fierce winds, plummeting down and smashing through the roof of a ground-floor residence.

The elderly man, who was asleep in bed at the time, narrowly avoided being hit as the tank landed right beside his bed.

The impact left the roof shattered and water pouring into the room, prompting the frightened resident to flee outside quickly.

According to Wanning City's Emergency Management Bureau, 1,809 people were urgently evacuated for safety due to Typhoon Prapiroon, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.
