A large monitor lizard raided a shop and was dragged outside by its tail.

The 6ft long reptile rampaged through the entrance of the convenience store before the shopkeeper evacuated it in Phetchabun, Thailand on July 19.

CCTV footage shows the Godzilla-like lizard scaring two men out of its way as it entered the establishment.

However, the massive animal was quickly pulled outside by a brave local as it could not hide its large body and was easily spotted.

Shop owner Sudarat Wilaiwan said: 'My grandson was the one who dragged the lizard out. It scared everyone because it was huge.'

No one was hurt and the monitor lizard crawled back into a canal to flee without any injuries.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
