USA: Netherlands Navy Fires $1.4M Missile in RIMPAC War Exercise

The Royal Netherlands Navy's De Zeven Provincien-class frigate, HNLMS Tromp (F803), conducted a significant live-fire exercise during RIMPAC 2024 by launching a Harpoon missile, valued at over USD 1.4 million. The missile firing, part of a scheduled sinking exercise (SINKEX), took place on July 18 amidst the expansive naval maneuvers around the Hawaiian Islands.
RIMPAC 2024 involves 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, over 150 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel. As the largest international maritime exercise globally, RIMPAC serves as a crucial platform for enhancing operational readiness and strengthening cooperative relationships among participating nations.
The exercise, spanning from June 27 to August 1, underscores the commitment of participating countries to safeguarding sea lanes and promoting global maritime security. RIMPAC 2024 marks the 29th iteration of this esteemed series, which commenced in 1971.
