Grandfather's poignant final moments with grandson in China
In Liuzhou, Guangxi, southern China, a touching conversation was captured between a grandfather and his grandson in the family's living room.
As if knowing his time was nearing an end, the grandfather engaged his grandson in a heartfelt discussion by asking in the local Hmong dialect, “If I were to turn into a butterfly and come back to you after I pass away, where would you want me to land?”
The filmer gestured with a movement and replied about his forehead. He then adds that he would like Grandpa to come back as a blue butterfly because he liked this color; but Grandpa stated that a red or yellow butterfly would look better.
A week after this moving dialogue, on June 30, 2024, the filmer's grandfather passed away. That very day, after the filmer returned bedroom from a vigil that lasted until 1:00 a.m., a butterfly species he had never seen in the area flew in and landed right on his face, which just happened to be the yellow and blue colours he had discussed with his grandfather.
The filmer recounted that in the days leading up to this moment, the grandfather often brought up such whimsical questions and even discussed his impending departure, which the grandson initially dismissed as playful banter.
The butterfly, which may have been a coincidence, brought the author unspeakable emotion and comfort, just as if his grandfather had kept his promise to come back and visit him.
