Houses near a sea were destroyed as typhoon Gaemi battered the Philippines.

Footage shows tidal waves hitting the shore while homes nearby had roof, wall, and flooring damaged in Albay province on July 23.

Resident Atan Acoyado said: ‘Several typhoons have passed but it was the first time this happened. The water rose very quickly and the houses were destroyed.'

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Gaemi, locally named Carina, affects the mainland Luzon.

It is expected to exit the Philippines on July 25, as it heads to the northern part of Taiwan where it will make a landfall.

Pagasa said: ‘Carina is forecast to make landfall over the northern portion of Taiwan this afternoon or early evening. On the track forecast, the typhoon will cross the rugged terrain of Taiwan and exit the Philippine area of responsibility.'
