Passengers have been evacuated onto the tarmac after a fire broke out John F. Kennedy International Airport's Terminal 8 on July 24.

Kiko Alvarez, who filmed the video, said on X: "Something is happening in #JFK airport. We are not allowed to depart." Almost an hour later, he added: "We have been moved from the gate, but we are not departing... That's the situation right now."

Fire Department New York said they found an escalator on fire and no injuries have been reported.

A fire has reportedly broken out at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, with several passengers 'evacuated' onto tarmac.

The blaze reportedly broke out on an escalator in Terminal 8. One passenger posting an image of the commotion to X wrote - Something is happening in #JFK airport. We are not allowed to depart.

A video taken from the scene shows at least six police cars parked close to a runway as a large group of passengers stand with their luggage and await instructions. In a seperate clip posted by X user Kiko Alvarez, multiple fire trucks are seen driving across the tarmac and up towards two planes.

Kiko, who was filming as he was sat inside one of the planes, wrote: "Something is happening in #JFK airport. We are not allowed to depart." Almost an hour later, he added: "We have been moved from the gate, but we are not departing... That's the situation right now."
