This is the dramatic moment ships were slammed into a bridge as Typhoon Gaemi battered the Philippines today.

Alex Rellosa watched as the three massive barges collided with the concrete supports of the bridge over the Marikina River in the capital Manila on July 24.

The swollen river reached a depth of 68 feet due to the continuous rain, resulting in severe flooding. The typhoon has killed at least 13 people in the Philippines and one in Taiwan.

Footage shows the watercraft, which were carrying construction equipment, being swept away by the strong current.

The cargo vessels collided with each other while small boats were seen scattering around them.

The storm displaced thousands of families as rivers overflowed and heavy rainfall flooded streets across the country.

Typhoon Gaemi is set to make landfall in Taiwan this Wednesday evening.
