Chinese man trapped in deep floodwater rescued after sharing location with phone in mouth
A man trapped in deep floodwater was rescued after sharing his location with a phone in his mouth in central China.
The video was filmed in Nanyang City in Henan Province on July 15.
Li Zhen, a man driving along a rural road, found his vehicle stalled in the floodwater. As the water level rose quickly, he had no choice but to abandon his car and escape.
Upon exiting the vehicle, Li realised the water was so deep that he couldn't touch the ground. He quickly grabbed onto a large tree by the roadside to stabilise himself. With the water reaching his neck, the situation became dire.
Li immediately dialled the firefighters for help and, following their instructions, shared his location via the Chinese messaging app WeChat. Clamping his phone between his teeth to prevent it from being swept away, he used one hand to grip a tree branch tightly to stay afloat.
The Sheqi County Fire and Rescue Brigade of Nanyang City responded promptly, deploying a rescue team. Due to the high water level, fire trucks couldn't reach the stranded location, so the firefighters used a lifeboat.
After a thorough search, the firefighters located Li at around 1:35 p.m. and successfully brought him aboard the lifeboat. By approximately 1:45 p.m., Li Zhen was safely back on shore, unharmed.
