STORYLINE:

A group of students from the U.S. and South Korea recently visited northeast China's Shenyang.

They learned about China through a two-week-long summer camp organized by the local government and Shenyang Normal University.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MIYA MARTINEZ, Student from DePaul University, U.S.
"This is my first time coming to China, and it's really exciting being here.
I heard a little bit, not too much, but I love tea. When I was coming, I was so excited to try Chinese tea.
I really loved the oolong tea, it was so delicious and just had a good, fragrant taste to it. The green tea was also really good.
Everyone was treated well and with a lot of respect, and we were welcomed so warmly. So I think the principle of treating everyone fairly with the Chinese tea culture was definitely applied and it was amazing to see.
The tea culture is so beautiful and so elegant. I was surprised with how many steps there were to create a cup of tea, but I love seeing the process. And I thought that everything had some type of meaning to it, which I think it shows the history of Chinese tea culture and just how long it's existed within the country. And I think that's a beautiful thing."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): HU BO, Deputy director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office in Shenyang Normal University
"In addition to studying Chinese, the students also experienced Chinese tea culture, Chinese traditional Qipao dress, Chinese Peking opera, seal carving, paper-cutting, rope weaving, traditional Chinese painting, and Tai Chi, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the language and culture of China."

The students also visited Shenyang Palace Museum, Liaoning Provincial Museum and Liaoning Science And Technology Museum.
