Severe flooding hit Akita on Wednesday, July 24, following heavy rains in the region.

Damage to homes due to the flooding were reported in Nikaho, Yurihonjo, Yokote, Yuzawa, and Ugo town. Landslide damage has also been reported in Nikaho, Yurihonjo, and Yokote cities. In Higashiyuri, Yurihonjo City, the 24-hour rainfall up to 6 a.m. on the 25th reached 196.5 mm, equivalent to the average for one month in July, making it the heaviest rainfall on record since statistics began to be collected.
