The proposal to establish a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty received unanimous approval on Wednesday at the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brazil.

The Task Force for the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty was proposed by Brazil's G20 presidency. It aims to mobilize resources and expertise to implement effective public policies and social technologies proven to reduce hunger and poverty worldwide. Membership in the Global Alliance will be open not only to G20 members but also to all interested countries.

The G20 Task Force for the Establishment of a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty has convened five formal meetings, from February 21-23 this year to its Ministerial Meeting on July 24. In these past six months, the Task Force successfully negotiated and approved all four foundational instruments that define and operationalize the Global Alliance.

These instruments move beyond mere declarations, providing a concrete framework for international cooperation in hunger and poverty reduction by focusing on practical partnerships for impactful change at the country level.
