Maharashtra rains: Landslide reported in Lavasa, 3-4 people feared trapped
Amid heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra, a landslide was reported in the Lavasa city near Pune. As per the primary report, three to four people are believed to be trapped, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has rushed one team to the spot.
Due to heavy rains in several parts of Pune and nearby areas, the administration has declared a holiday on Thursday, July 25, for all schools in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad as well as western parts of the district.
In the last 24 hours ending 7:30 am, Lavasa received 417 mm rainfall, while Lonavala -- the popular hill station in the region -- got 299.5 mm. It was followed by Junnar with 214 mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, one person died and another one got injured due to a rockslide in the Adharwadi village of Pune Rural, the district administration said.
Also, all schools and colleges in the Palghar district have been shut after the IMD issued an orange alert for the day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert and predicted isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Goa and Madhya Maharashtra today, while the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai.
Additionally, an orange alert was issued for cities like Thane, Palghar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.
“The districts of Konkan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. The districts of Madhya Maharashtra, particularly in the Ghat region, are also expected to experience heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places,” IMD stated.
