STORYLINE:
Turkish police detained 72 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group in nationwide operations, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Thursday.
The operations were carried out across 13 provinces, namely Ankara, Adana, Antalya, Corum, Elazig, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Kirkkale, Kilis, Mersin, Sanliurfa and Trabzon, the Turkish minister said on X.
A large amount of foreign currency and Turkish lira and many digital materials were seized, he said.
The Turkish government designated the IS as a terrorist organization in 2013, and Turkish police have been regularly conducting counter-terrorism operations against its members across the country.
