Heroic Chinese police rescue motorists trapped in car stranded by raging floods
Heroic police officers rescued two motorists trapped in a car stranded by raging floods in northwest China
The video was filmed in Hejing County in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on July 19.
Hejing County Police received an urgent distress call from Zhou, who reported being trapped with another individual in their vehicle due to a sudden flash flood.
The incident occurred approximately 10 kilometres from Baluntai, where the river's rapid currents had immobilised their car.
The situation was critical. Deputy Captain Ge You and Instructor Shan Yunfei from the Hejing County Traffic Police, who also lead the Baluntai unit, immediately sprang into action. They alerted nearby patrolling officers Yang Jingyu and Mi Kaiyuan and rushed to the scene with ropes and rescue gear.
Ge You and Shan Yunfei quickly assessed the scene and devised a rescue plan. To prevent the vehicle from being swept away by the fast-moving waters, they first threw one end of a rope to the trapped individuals, instructing them to secure it to the car while the other end was tied to a tree on the riverbank.
They borrowed a safety harness from a nearby construction site, intending for Zhou and his companion, Huang, to use it to escape along the rope. However, both men were too panicked to secure the harness properly.
At this moment, two large trucks passed by. The police flagged them down and borrowed additional ropes from the truck drivers. They threw the ropes across the river, instructing Zhou and Huang to tie them around their waists.
After nearly an hour and a half of coordinated effort, the team successfully pulled both trapped individuals to safety.
Medical examinations revealed that both Zhou and Huang were unharmed.
It was later learned that Zhou, a farmer from Baluntai, had been on his way to harvest cabbages with Huang when the unexpected flood swept them off the road and trapped them in the river.
