The third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee is "of great significance not just to China but to the world," said Iqbal Surve, chairman of South Africa's Independent Media, in a recent interview with Xinhua.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): IQBAL SURVE, Chairman of South Africa's Independent Media
"China is one of the key countries and economies in the world today and therefore what the CPC decides, the direction and guidance it gives to the Chinese economy, is of great significance to not just to China but to the world.
It is of great significance to us, for example, in Africa.
This is important for us as South Africa, because this will serve as a blueprint for South Africa's own development to overcome its issues of poverty, inequality, and, frankly speaking, the lack of innovation."

Surve also noted that China's tremendous progress in past decades serves as an excellent example for other countries.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): IQBAL SURVE, Chairman of South Africa's Independent Media
"I've always maintained to people that China is a very, very good example as a country that in 40 years has come from being a low-income country to, you know, a decent middle-income country.
China's successful reforms are a lodestar for the world, are something that the world needs to look at. The world should be embracing China's successful reforms as a basis for stabilizing international trade, benefiting developing economies, emerging markets, and developed economies, such as Europe and North America."
