Baby born en route as traffic police escort couple to hospital in China
On the morning of July 16, in Guan County, Liaocheng City, northern China, Mr. Guan urgently sought help from on-duty traffic police while driving his private car. His wife’s water had broken, and she was about to give birth, creating a critical situation. Upon receiving the plea for help, the Guan County Traffic Police quickly activated an emergency response plan.
Officers Ji Yueshi, Zheng Haodong, and Chang Huazong sprang into action. One officer led the way on a police motorcycle, another drove Mr. Guan's car, and a third officer sat in the passenger seat to reassure the anxious couple.
During the journey to the hospital, Mrs. Guan gave birth in the car. The police maintained contact with the hospital, ensuring they were ready to receive the new mother and baby upon arrival. Thanks to the swift escort, the normally 20-minute trip took less than eight minutes, safely reaching Guan County Xinhua Hospital.
Medical staff from the emergency department, maternity ward, and paediatrics were already on standby. They quickly provided care for the newborn and transported Mrs. Guan for further treatment. Both mother and baby were in good health following the ordeal.
In gratitude and to commemorate the unique circumstances of their daughter’s birth, Mr. and Mrs. Guan named her "Jingyuan," of which the pronunciation sounds like their bond with the traffic police Chinese meaning.
