USA: US Senator Releases Bodycam Footage Following Trump Assassination Attempt
Butler, USA - July 13, 2024
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has released additional bodycam footage obtained from local law enforcement, shedding light on the aftermath of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The footage, provided by the Beaver County Emergency Services Unit (ESU), captures the immediate response by ESU officers and United States Secret Service (USSS) personnel following the attack.
Grassley, in his capacity overseeing federal oversight requests, emphasized transparency by making these videos public. The footage reveals officers accessing the rooftop from where the shooter fired and gathering crucial evidence.
Of particular concern to Grassley's office are the challenges highlighted in the footage:
The fragmented and delayed communication between local and federal law enforcement.
A delayed response in identifying and securing a potential detonator device near the deceased shooter.
Additionally, the footage documents discussions among law enforcement about deploying a drone to inspect and secure the water tower at the scene. Records obtained by Grassley confirm the USSS had assigned a drone operator to the event, despite earlier testimony from FBI Director Christopher Wray indicating the shooter had flown his own drone around the venue prior to the attack.
Grassley continues to review all records received in response to oversight requests, aiming to address procedural concerns and ensure comprehensive security measures in future events.
