SDRF rescues four pilgrims from rapid river currents in northern India
In a series of dramatic rescues, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) saved four pilgrims from drowning in the fast-flowing river in northern India's Uttarakhand.
The incident took place at Kangra Ghat of Haridwar district on July 26.
Visuals showed the distressed man getting carried away with the water currents and the brave rescue team members fully equipped with live jackets jumping into the water straight risking their lives to save the individual.
Among the rescued was Jagdish, a 25-year-old pilgrim from Haryana, who was swept away by the strong current while bathing.
Speaking to Newslions, SDRF Media Coordinator, Lalita Negi mentioned that the SDRF team was led by SI Pankaj Singh Kharola, and they used swimming techniques and a throw bag to reach and rescue Jagdish safely. The swift and heroic efforts of the team, which included HC Ashiq Ali, HC Jitendra Rawat, CT Pradeep Rawat, CT Anil Kotiyal, CT Rajat Tomar, CT Surendra Singh, CT Shivam, FM Sandeep Singh, and FM Laxman Singh, were crucial in saving lives.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by pilgrims during the annual Kanwar Yatra, a religious pilgrimage in northern India, and the dedication of rescue teams in ensuring their safety.
