A total of 500 weavers were involved in the 2024 begawe jelo nyensek festival in sukarara village, jonggat district, central lombok, west nusa tenggara province, indonesia, on saturday 27 july 2024.

Hundreds of women flocked to the streets, carrying weaving tools and materials. They consist of women, starting from teenagers to adults, who directly weave sasak and songket cloth.

This activity is a venue for artistic and cultural performances for the community, weavers and guests who attend the festival.

This activity is to preserve and develop arts and crafts and culture at the village level, where it has been hereditary for residents to be obliged to preserve arts and culture.

Yoan, one of the tourists who was present to witness the hundreds of weavers, said that this was the first time he had seen hundreds of women working and weaving and he really liked it.


"I just arrived, so i can't tell you much more. I only saw women working, yes it was very fun. For this festival yes this was the only time i saw it, but seeing women working was the first time and i loved it." yoan said in his interview video.

For your information, songket weaving from sukarara village is only done by women.

For the residents of philosophy, making songket woven cloth is an obligation where they have been taught from an early age to be able to make songket cloth.

Once they are adults, women who have completed their songket are allowed to marry.

This weaving skill can help her husband in terms of income.
