1. various of the surgery at the First People's Hospital of Kashgar Prefecture, performed by a doctor from the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University through a robot
STORYLINE:
Aided by a 5G-powered robotic surgery technology, a long-distance urologic surgery was successfully completed in China's Xinjiang by a doctor thousands of miles away in south China's Guangdong.
During the surgery, Lin Tianxin, director of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, operated on a domestically developed robot console. Meanwhile, the patient was in a hospital in Kashgar Prefecture in Xinjiang, over 5,000 km from the surgeon's location. The surgery proceeded seamlessly with nimble robotic arms and negligible latency.
As hospitals in some inland regions of China face a shortage of well-trained personnel and advanced equipment, they would usually seek the assistance of doctors from leading medical centers to conduct surgeries to cater to the needs of their patients. Some doctors had to travel long distance to those areas.
Thanks to the surgical technology enabled by 5G, this problem can now be effectively addressed, providing patients in remote regions of China with more access to high-quality medical services.
