This is the terrifying moment a huge python wrapped itself around a man who was squatting in a bush to go to the toilet.

The man was out working in the fields when he was caught short and desperately needed to go to the loo in Jabalpur, in Madhya Pradesh, India.

But when he squatted to relieve himself with his trousers round his ankles, the 13ft long snake attacked him and coiled itself around his neck.

Footage recorded by villagers who heard his screams for help on July 22 shows the snake as it tightens its grip on his throat.

'Kill it,' one of the men is heard saying in the video.

'Wait, wait,' other men stated while requesting the man with an axe to avoid hurting the man who had python around his neck.

'Hack off it from its neck,' one of the bystanders added.

'Dismember it with an axe,' another shouted.

After trying unsuccessfully to lever the snake's powerful coils off his neck one villager chops into the snake's body with a heavy axe.

The gruesome footage shows a wound but the snake is still holding tight as the clip ends.

Local media reports say the python was eventually killed and hacked to pieces by villagers with their farm tools.

The man, it is understood, was saved and is said to be recovering.

His brush with death came with a reticulated python - one of the world's deadliest snakes and easily capable of killing a human.
