Video footage shows a female minke whale stranded on sand and rocks in Broadford on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, after the tide receded, prompting kayakers to call for a distress rescue effort.

Medics from British Divers Marine Life Rescue, in collaboration with the Coastguard and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, responded to the scene on July 12.

The video shows that over time, the whale grew increasingly distressed, and despite efforts to calm her, her violent tail fluke movements made it nearly impossible for rescuers to assess her condition.

Her estimated length of four to five meters suggested that she might still be young and dependent on her mother. The whale died shortly after.
