SDRF and police rescue three pilgrims from swift river current in northern India
The SDRF northern India’s Uttarakhand Police successfully rescued three Kanwariyas from the swift currents of the Ganga River during the Kanwar Mela.
The incident took place at Kangra Ghat in Haridwar district on July 28.
Visuals showed a river with a dangerously strong current, several people were trapped. The water was rushing swiftly, creating a perilous situation. Nearby, an SDRF team was present, diligently working to rescue the stranded individuals. The rescuers, equipped with life-saving gear, bravely navigated the turbulent waters to reach and save those in distres. Despite the challenging conditions, the SDRF team’s coordinated and courageous actions ensured the safety of those trapped.
In a daring rescue operation the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Uttarakhand Police saved three Kanwariyas from drowning in the swift currents of the Ganga River at Kangra Ghat, Haridwar.
The first incident involved Kamlesh Das, 22, from Ambala, Haryana. While bathing, Kamlesh got caught in the river's strong current. SDRF team members Constable Pradeep Rawat and Constable Anil Kotiyal responded swiftly, swimming through the dangerous waters to reach him and successfully pulling him to safety.
In a second incident, which occurred at 14:38, two more Kanwariyas, Sahil, 25, and Vijay, 24, both from Kewda, Haryana, were also swept away by the river's current while bathing. Main Constable Ashik Ali and Constable Anil Kotiyal, who were present at the ghat, launched a challenging rescue operation, eventually saving the two men from drowning.
The prompt and courageous actions of the SDRF team ensured that all three individuals were safely rescued and brought to shore, highlighting the critical role of rescue operations during the Kanwar Mela, which attracts a large number of devotees each year.
