On July 28, a sudden ground collapse at the entrance of a repair service center in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, created a nearly 5-meter deep sinkhole, causing a large tree to sink vertically into the ground. The dramatic scene left onlookers stunned.

Local businesses and residents reported no prior signs of instability before the collapse. The incident has impacted local traffic and residents' daily lives, prompting swift intervention by relevant authorities.

Initial analyses suggest the collapse might be linked to the area's underground karst development, historical mining activities, and recent heavy rainfall. Geologists noted that parts of Xiangtan County are prone to karst sinkholes due to soluble rock formations. Additionally, past mining activities in the region may have compromised the stability of the underground rock layers.
