Gaza Strip: Palestinian death toll in Gaza surpasses 39,300
Gaza Strip - July 27, 2024
The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip had risen to 39,324, health authorities in the besieged enclave said on Sunday.
During the past 24 hours, the Israeli military killed 66 people and wounded 241 others, bringing the total death toll to 39,324 and injuries to 90,830 since the latest round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in early October 2023, the health authorities said in a statement.
Local medics said at least 15 people, including a four-month-old infant and a 13-year-old girl, were killed in two separate Israeli air strikes targeting southern Gaza city Khan Younis. One of the strikes took place in the Al-Mawasi, a so-called "safe zone" designated by the Israeli military.
The Israeli army said it was investigating the incident.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee on Sunday urged the residents in parts of Bureij and Shuhada in central of the Gaza Strip to evacuate immediately to the humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi in a statement.
Adraee said in the statement that in the wake of the launching of rocket shells by armed personnel from among the residents of the Bureij and Shuhada areas, the Israeli army will "work forcefully against the terrorist elements that are active there."
Since the outbreak of the latest round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Israeli military has frequently issued evacuation orders in the Gaza Strip.
Only 14 percent of the areas in the Gaza Strip have not been under evacuation orders, Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, said on social media platform on Sunday.
