In her first words after the publication of the results of the National Electoral Council, which give the victory to Nicolas Maduro, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said that the opposition not only won the elections, but that the candidate Edmundo Gonzalez obtained 70% of the votes and won in all the states of the country.

"They do know what happened and what they intend to do. The whole international community knows this. Even those who were once allies know what happened in Venezuela and how the people voted for a change, the most important thing is that we Venezuelans know this, in all the communities, what the people did to get to vote, the hope for a change and a peaceful transition. What has already happened, has already happened. We not only defeated it politically, morally and spiritually, today we defeated it with the votes in all of Venezuela.But also the military citizens know it, they were there in the front row, they saw people with joy, organized in a peaceful way and opening their arms to the whole country, and the duty of the National Armed Forces that makes the popular sovereignty expressed in the vote be respected."
