Anthony Romine, a 29-year-old inmate from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, sparked a massive manhunt after escaping from AdventHealth Palm Coast where he was being treated. Romine's daring escape led to a seven-hour pursuit involving multiple law enforcement units before he was finally apprehended in a dramatic showdown with a K-9 unit.

Romine had fled into nearby woods near the Amoco gas station, located at the southbound ramp of Interstate 95 and State Road 100 in Palm Coast. He was tracked and located by an FCSO K-9 patrol team, hiding under foliage and brush. Earlier reports from a gas station clerk had alerted deputies to his possible whereabouts after Romine had entered the store seeking to use a phone.

Sheriff Rick Staly personally supervised the operation, coordinating efforts with various units including the FCSO K-9 Unit, Drone Unit, Flagler County Fire Rescue’s FireFlight helicopter, and support from neighboring agencies like the Volusia Sheriff's Office. The extensive search involved multiple sightings and tips from the community, crucial in locating Romine.

Originally arrested on July 3 for charges including Petit Theft and Counterfeit, Romine's escape plan was uncovered after detectives determined he had feigned injury to facilitate his getaway back to Ohio. Sheriff Staly commended the tireless efforts of his team and the community's vigilance in reporting sightings that ultimately led to Romine's capture.

Following his apprehension, Romine faces additional charges for his escape, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Resisting Arrest. Sheriff Staly also emphasized plans to review security protocols to prevent future incidents of this nature.

The swift resolution of this incident underscores the effectiveness of collaborative law enforcement efforts and community involvement in maintaining public safety.
