USA: Driver Fails Alphabet Test, Confused and Caught on Dashcam in Florida
Marion County, FL, USA - July 21, 2024
Dramatic dashcam footage has emerged showing a suspected drunken driver's bewildered reaction to being pulled over by Florida deputies, followed by a comical attempt at reciting the alphabet after his arrest.
The incident unfolded earlier this week when Marion County deputies responded to reports of a reckless driver swerving between lanes on Highway 326 and I-75. Identified as Cody Vetter, the driver allegedly ignored multiple attempts to stop him before deputies used a PIT maneuver to halt his truck.
In the video, Vetter is seen emerging slowly from the driver’s seat, visibly unsteady on his feet. According to the sheriff’s office, Vetter believed he was on southbound I-75 en route to Gainesville, unaware that he was actually in Ocala. He was apprehended and placed in the back of a patrol car, expressing confusion and disbelief about the situation.
"I did not run from you… man, if you would have just pulled me over," Vetter is heard telling the deputy in the video.
During his booking at the jail, Vetter was asked to recite the alphabet, a standard sobriety test. However, his attempt was far from successful as he stumbled through the letters, nearly completing the sequence before looping back and repeating sections.
Authorities reported that Vetter admitted to consuming three to five beers earlier that day while canoeing. Subsequent field sobriety tests revealed a blood alcohol content of .232 and .225, significantly surpassing the legal limit.
