At least 43 people have been killed after a massive landslide struck Wayanad, Kerala, on July 30.

Hundreds are feared trapped by the fallen debris and the National Disaster Response Forces have launched rescue operations.

The army has been enlisted to build a temporary bridge in the district the connect the affected area to nearby towns.

Various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Forces, have joined the rescue ops in the hilly areas near Meppadi.

Several people are injured and various others are feared trapped under the debris. 250 members of the Fire and Rescue, Civil Defence, NDRF, and Local Emergency Response Teams are involved in the rescue operation. An additional team of NDRF has been directed to reach the spot immediately, the officials said.

The army was roped in to build a temporary bridge after a bridge in the district that linked the affected area, mostly tea and cardamom estates, to the nearest town of Chooralmala was destroyed,
