Tourists Flock to Greece en Masse as Greek Tourism Sets Record-Breaking Year
Beaches in Northern Greece flooded with tourists as Greek tourism is set to smash last year's record numbers, with current data on revenue, arrivals, and bookings already indicating a thriving industry.
With the peak season, traditionally falling in August, officials anticipate further growth and a potentially record-breaking year for Greek tourism.
In 2023, tourism revenue reached an impressive €20.5 billion, according to figures from the Bank of Greece. The first five months of 2024 have seen a significant increase in revenue, up 16.2 percent to €3.8 billion, and arrivals have also surged by 20.6 percent over the same period.
Increased passenger traffic at all commercial airports across the country further confirms Greece's popularity as a top tourist destination. This surge in visitors is expected to continue, especially as the peak summer season approaches, promising a prosperous future for the Greek tourism sector.

"Well, it's quite fun. The beaches are good, and the locals are really helpful. You know, they're talkative. I really enjoy it. The food is great; it tastes good and isn't very expensive, contrary to what many people say. Overall, it's just an enjoyable experience. Greece has a lot of tourists, and you don't see many Greek people on holiday. There are people from all around the world coming here. I mean, Greece is really a tourist-filled place"
05:00-05:53 Tommy, Romanian tourist in Greece
It is very nice in Greece; it is very clean and cheap. It is cheaper than in Romania, even cheaper than the Black Sea resorts. Greece has good infrastructure, like roads and highways, and the people here are nice. The prices for everything are very cheap. I was in Croatia, Romania, and Hungary, and it was more expensive. The price is the biggest motivation for me. Yes, there are a lot of tourists here, but it's okay. The most inconvenient thing is the parking space. We don't have enough parking space.
